"PAINT INSPECTION - COATING SURVEY" |
QUALITY CONTROL & DOCUMENT REVIEW
We believe the importance of quality control from the onset and ensuring all parties are aware of the project requirements. Our involvement generally starts prior to contract award so we can assist the client on project technical documents required to be submitted by the contractor. We will assist in producing the Inspection Test Plans 'ITP's' and contractors quality control package covering the inspection and testing to meet project specific data requirements. The importance of this early project stage involvement can't be under estimated as it sets out the guidelines and requirements to ensure a successful contract is achieved and quality is obtained throughout the process.
Coating Survey
When a structure owner or manager decides that a works programme is going to be implemented, they generally decide that a coating survey will be required as a precursor to the works programme; this vital information will ultimately help when painting packages are created. They also potentially help alleviate any future contracting issues by identifying possible hazards and environmental issues such as toxicology.
Our coating survey covers but not limited too:
- Survey reporting against industrial standards such as ISO4628 degradation of coatings.
- A detailed appraisal of the structure/asset
- Analysis of the existing coating including detailed information on paint layers and overall thickness
- Equipment Use & Calibrationdetails
- Coating Identification and Sample Testing including chemical analysis and reporting of any hazardous content such as Lead and chromium.
- Measurements of the structure (if required)
- Evaluation of Degradation of Coatings Assessment of Degree of Blistering , Assessment of Degree of Rusting Assessment of Degree of Cracking, Assessment of Degree of Flaking/Delamination
- Comprehensive photographic information
- Summary and Recommendations on the specification against standards provides you with an overall review on future maintenance requirements
The paint inspection process
All paint inspection projects are carried out by a paint inspector with NACE Level 2 qualifications, and will typically involve the following steps:
- A review of the project specification; which may involve a review of the contractor?s coatings submittals to verify conformance.
- The creation of an Inspection Test Plan tailored specifically to the project.
- A full examination of all paintings and coatings is carried out to assess baseline, thickness, corrosion, and fire damage.
- A detailed report is then produced for the client, highlighting weak points in their coatings and recommendations for improvements.
NACE Certification
The NACE Coating Inspector Program (CIP) has been setting the standard for inspections in the protective coatings industry for over 30 years. The CIP is an international certification program that produces the highest calibre of paint inspectors and thus helps to save billions of pounds in potentially costly coatings mistakes. All of our field inspectors are qualified to at least CIP Level 2.
